Sohail Arabi, an Iranian blogger born in 1985, was arrested in October 2013 on charges of "insulting the sanctities," "insulting religion, including the Prophet of Islam," and "insulting the leader and officials of the Islamic Republic." He was initially held in solitary confinement before being transferred to Ward 350 of Evin Prison in July 2014. Approximately one year after his arrest, Branch 76 of the Tehran Criminal Court charged him with "insulting the Prophet of Islam."
In December 2014, Arabi was sentenced to death. However, he successfully appealed the verdict, and the sentence was changed to eight years in prison and two years of exile to Borazjan, despite his physical illnesses and adverse mental conditions.
In October 2024, after nine months of judicial delays in announcing the end of his exile, Arabi left Borazjan and returned to Tehran. He was arrested again in March 2026 and transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison. As of 23 April 2026, he remains in temporary detention and is reportedly under pressure and torture in solitary confinement at the prison.
سهیل عربی، متولد ۱۳۶۴، یک وبلاگ نویس ایرانی است. او در مهر ۱۳۹۲ به اتهام "توهین به مقدسات"، "توهین به دین، از جمله پیامبر اسلام" و "توهین به رهبر و مقامات جمهوری اسلامی" بازداشت شد.
او برای مدتی در سلول انفرادی نگهداری شد و سپس در مرداد ۱۳۹۳ به بند ۳۵۰ زندان اوین منتقل گردید. حدود یک سال پس از بازداشت سهیل عربی، شعبه ۷۶ دادگاه کیفری استان تهران این نویسنده زندانی را به اتهام "توهین به پیامبر اسلام" متهم کرد.
در آذر ۱۳۹۳، او به اعدام محکوم شد. با این حال، او در دادگاه تجدیدنظر موفق به تغییر حکم شد و حکم اعدام به هشت سال حبس و دو سال تبعید به برازجان تغییر یافت، با وجود بیماری های جسمی و شرایط نامساعد روحی او.
درمهر ۱۴۰۳سهیل عربی، پس از ۹ ماه کارشکنی قضایی در ابلاغ پایان دوران تبعید، شهرستان برازجان را ترک کرده و به تهران بازگشت.
وی مجددا در اسفند سال ۱۴۰۴ دستگیر شد و به زندان قزل حصار منتقل شده است. بنا بر آخرین خبر در تاریخ ۳ اردیبهشت ۱۴۰۵، او همچنان به شکل بازداشت موقت و دربلا تکلیفی در سلول انفرادی آن زندان تحت فشار و شکنجه است.
