Such actions typically raise concerns about the imminent execution of the death sentence. Aref Khoshkar has been sentenced to death on charges of killing a Basij force member. It has been reported that he was subjected to physical and psychological pressure during detention, and confessions attributed to him were obtained under harsh conditions. It has also been stated that he was deprived of effective access to a chosen lawyer and a fair trial process.
