Ehsan Rezapour, a 35-year-old Iranian citizen residing in Germany, set himself on fire after returning to Iran and enduring weeks of security pressure and torture. He passed away after being hospitalized for several days.

Ehsan Rezapour, an Iranian citizen residing in Germany, passed away after setting himself on fire and being hospitalised for several days. Rezapour had returned to Iran in March 2026 to visit his family and child, as well as to attend a memorial ceremony for friends who had died in the December protests. Sources indicated that he was tired of living abroad and intended to stay in Iran.

Upon his arrival in the country, it was reported that his passport was confiscated and a travel ban was imposed on him. In the following weeks, he was allegedly threatened and subjected to telephone interrogations through anonymous calls.

Reports suggest that pressure on him intensified after an altercation with Basij forces on 9 March 2026. The confrontation reportedly occurred due to his short-sleeved attire and visible tattoos. Following this incident, Rezapour disappeared for two days.

According to informed sources, he was found in a severely deteriorated physical condition after these two days. His injuries included a broken nose, severe ear and jaw damage, reduced vision in his right eye, marks from cables and stun guns on his neck and back, extensive bruising, and breathing difficulties. It was also claimed that after torturing him, officers abandoned him in the deserts near Andisheh and fired shots close to his face.

Reports stated that upon returning home, Rezapour was in a critical mental state and spoke of pressure to record a "forced confession." It is said that he lived in hiding until 29 March 2026, taking medication for severe nervous attacks.

On the evening of 29 March 2026, after another contact from security agencies and being summoned again, he reportedly suffered a nervous attack and set himself on fire. He passed away on 6 April 2026 after being hospitalised for several days and experiencing two cardiac arrests.
