Mohammad Ali was the cousin of Ashkan Shoushtari, who was also killed on January 8, 2026, during protests in Shahriar, Tehran. They are from the Arab community of Khuzestan.
Eyewitnesses reported that Mohammad Ali Arar was standing in front of his house when he attempted to rescue two young female protesters from security forces. Security forces shot at him, and after he was wounded, they fatally shot him. His house is located across from Ammar Mosque on Shoushtar Boulevard. After the burial, security forces removed condolence banners from the walls of his house and destroyed his memorial shrine a few days later.
His body was buried on January 11, 2026, in the Shoushtar cemetery.

محمدعلی پسرعموی اشکان شوشتری بود که او هم در ۱۸ دی در اعتراضات شهریار تهران کشته شده بود. آنها از عرب های خوزستان هستند.
به گفته شاهدان عینی محمدعلی عرار مقابل درب منزل خود ایستاده بود و در حالی که برای نجات دو دختر جوان معترض از دست ماموران سرکوبگر اقدام کرده بود نیروهای امنیتی به سوی او شلیک کردند و پس از زخمی شدن او را با تیر خلاص به شهادت رساندند. منزل او روبروی مسجد عمار در بلوار شوشتر قرار دارد. نیروهای امنیتی پس از خاکسپاری بنرهای تسلیت را از دیوار خانه اش جمع آوری کردند و چند روز بعد حجله یادبود او را نیز تخریب نمودند.
پیکر این شهید روز ۲۱ دی ماه ۱۴۰۴ در قبرستان شوشتر به خاک سپرده شد.
