Ramin Hossein Panahi

Ramin Hossein Panahi, a political prisoner who had been sentenced to death, was executed on the morning of 8 September 2018 at Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj. He had been in detention since July 2017 and had previously stated that he was subjected to torture and mistreatment while in prison. Ramin Hossein Panahi was tried on 16 January 2018 in the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj on charges of acting against national security. After spending 200 days in solitary confinement, he was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison and sentenced to death on 15 January of the same year. The sentence was upheld by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court on 11 April 2018 and referred to Branch 4 of the Sanandaj Prosecutor's Office for execution.

Ramin Hossein Panahi was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison on 13 August 2018 without prior notice. The execution of this political activist took place despite repeated denials of the charges leading to the death sentence by him and his lawyers.

There had been no information about the status of Ramin Hossein Panahi along with three other Kurdish political prisoners, Zaniar and Loghman Moradi, since 5 September 2018, causing concern for the families of these prisoners.
