Zanyar Moradi

On 8 September 2018, Zaniar and Loghman Moradi, two Kurdish political prisoners, were executed at Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj. The two individuals had been transferred to Ward 8 of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Intelligence at Rajai Shahr Prison on 5 September 2018 for the implementation of their death sentences. Zaniar and Loghman Moradi were arrested by security forces in the city of Marivan, Kurdistan Province, on 4 and 5 August 2009. After nine months in solitary confinement, they were transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced them to death on charges of enmity against God through actions against national security, membership in the Komala Party, the assassination of the son of the Marivan Friday prayer leader, espionage, and disrupting security. They denied the charges and stated that their initial confessions were obtained under torture. After their appeal against the sentences, on 9 July 2011, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict and communicated it to the execution division of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj. Previously, the mother of Zaniar and Loghman had expressed concern about the situation of her sons. Additionally, Eghbal Moradi, Zaniar's father, was assassinated in July of the same year in Iraqi Kurdistan. The families of the two individuals remain unaware of their burial locations.
