Majid Tavakoli

Majid Tavakoli, a former political prisoner and detainee from the nationwide protests in 2022, has been sentenced by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court to six years in prison and additional penalties. These penalties include a two-year ban on online activities, a two-year prohibition from residing in Tehran, and a two-year travel ban. Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, which is five years of imprisonment, will be enforceable.

According to the verdict issued by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court and communicated to his lawyer on 18 July, Majid Tavakoli was sentenced to one year in prison for "propaganda activities against the regime" and five years for "assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security." The additional penalties include a two-year ban on online activities, a two-year prohibition from residing in Tehran, and a two-year travel ban. Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, which is five years of imprisonment, will be enforceable.

The final hearing regarding Majid Tavakoli's charges was held at the Tehran Revolutionary Court on 15 July.

Majid Tavakoli, a student activist and former political prisoner, was arrested by security forces in Tehran on 23 September 2022 in connection with the nationwide protests and was released on bail on 19 December of the same year.
