Masoud Farhikhteh

According to human rights sources, on 20 September 2025, Masoud Farikhteh, a retired teacher and union activist, who was in detention, was transferred to the central prison of Karaj to serve his custodial sentence.

It has been reported that Masoud Farikhteh was initially detained in Shahreza and then transferred to Karaj, where he was taken to Branch 11 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Karaj. This transfer occurred while the unit responsible for executing criminal sentences was closed until 22 September 2025, and he still had the legal deadline to present himself to the relevant authority. Despite these circumstances, he was taken to Police Station 30 in Zourabad and then handed over to the central prison of Karaj.

On 16 September 2025, Masoud Farikhteh was arrested by security forces while travelling to Shahreza to attend an event.

In August 2025, he was sentenced by the Alborz Province Court of Appeal to three years, 56 months, and one day of custodial imprisonment for "assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt national security" and to seven months and 16 days for "propaganda activities against the regime."

Previously, he had been sentenced by the Karaj Revolutionary Court to five years of custodial imprisonment for "assembly and collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security" and to one year for "propaganda activities against the regime." Additionally, he was sentenced to two years of travel ban and two years of prohibition from membership and activity in parties and groups as supplementary punishment.

On 23 June 2024, he was tried by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court for "propaganda activities against the regime" and sentenced to three months of custodial imprisonment or a fine. However, following an appeal, he was acquitted of this charge.

In late April 2024, in another case, he was sentenced by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court to a fine instead of three months of custodial imprisonment.

On 3 December 2022, he was arrested during a protest gathering of teachers in Alborz Province. After being transferred to Evin Prison and undergoing interrogation, he was moved to Ward 2 of the Greater Tehran Prison and released on bail on 1 February 2023. He was re-arrested on 1 May 2023, transferred to a detention centre in Karaj, and then moved to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj on 23 May 2023, before being released on bail on 25 May 2023.

On 31 July 2022, he was tried in the Criminal Court 2 of Tehran Province and sentenced on 2 August 2022 to one year of custodial imprisonment and 74 lashes for "disturbing public order and peace."

Additionally, on 27 July 2022, he was charged in the Sanandaj Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office with "assembly and collusion against national security."

On 31 May 2022, he was arrested by Sanandaj security forces and, after being transferred to the Intelligence Detention Centre and undergoing interrogation, was moved to the central prison of the city and released on bail on the same day.

On 12 May 2022, he was arrested during nationwide teachers' protests in Tehran and, after being transferred to Evin Prison and undergoing interrogation, was released on bail on 15 May 2022.

Masoud Farikhteh, the teachers' union activist imprisoned in the central prison of Karaj, was transferred to an unknown location on 20 July. It has been reported that until one day before this transfer, he was held in solitary confinement as a disciplinary measure.
