Kianoosh Asa, born on 19 March 1984 in Kermanshah, was a fourth-semester master's student in chemical engineering at Iran University of Science and Technology, an environmental activist, and a tanbur player. He was killed during the 2009 protests by forces of the Islamic Republic.
Asa disappeared during the demonstrations at Azadi Square in Tehran on 15 June 2009. His body was identified by his family at the forensic morgue on 24 June 2009. Asa was killed by two gunshots. He belonged to a religious minority, with his family practising the Yarsan faith.
According to the forensic authorities, Asa's body was delivered to them on 18 June 2009, with the cause of death being gunshot wounds. However, his family reported that they were repeatedly informed that he was being held in Evin Prison until 24 June.
His body was buried on 28 June 2009 at Bagh-e Ferdows in Kermanshah. A memorial ceremony was held at Iran University of Science and Technology on the same day, despite extensive threats from university officials and the Ministry of Intelligence at the time.
کیانوش آسا (زادهٔ ۲۹ اسفند ۱۳۶۲ در کرمانشاه – درگذشتهٔ ۲۵ خرداد ۱۳۸۸ در تهران) دانشجوی ترم چهارم کارشناسی ارشد رشتهٔ مهندسی شیمی در دانشگاه علم و صنعت ایران، فعال محیط زیست و تنبورنواز بود. او در طول اعتراضات ۱۳۸۸ توسط نیروهای سرکوب گر جمهوری اسلامی کشته شد.
او در جریان تظاهرات روز دوشنبه ۲۵ خرداد ۱۳۸۸ در میدان آزادی تهران ناپدید شد و روز ۳ تیر ماه ۱۳۸۸ در سردخانهٔ پزشکی قانونی توسط خانواده اش شناسایی شد. آسا در اثر برخورد دو گلوله کشته شده بود. کیانوش آسا اقلیت مذهبی بوده و خانواده ای با مذهب یارسان (اهل حق) داشته است.
به گفتهٔ پزشکی قانونی جسد آسا در روز ۲۹ خرداد به پزشکی قانونی تحویل داده شده بود و علت فوت، برخورد گلوله بود. اما خانوادهٔ وی می گویند که تا پیش از سوم تیر بارها به آن ها اعلام شده بود که فرزندشان در زندان اوین به سر می برد.
پیکر وی در تاریخ ۷ تیر در باغ فردوس کرمانشاه به خاک سپرده شد. مراسمی نیز به مناسبت یادبود وی در دانشگاه علم و صنعت ایران در ۷ تیر با وجود تهدید گستردهٔ مسئولان وقت دانشگاه و وزارت اطلاعات برگزار شد.
