Gholamreza Akbari Monfared was born in 1959 in the Atabak neighborhood of Tehran. He completed his primary and secondary education in Tehran and subsequently entered the workforce as a tailor.

Following the demonstrations on 20 June 1981, he engaged in a life of secret activism. In February/March 1982, he was arrested by the forces of the regime but was released from prison and continued his activities. Gholamreza was arrested again in November 1983 and transferred to Evin Prison. He was subjected to severe torture by regime agents and ultimately died under torture on 5 October 1985.

Two weeks after his death, when his parents visited Evin Prison as was customary, regime officials handed over his personal belongings and prohibited them from holding any memorial services.

غلامرضا اکبری منفرد در سال ۱۳۳۸، در محله اتابک تهران به دنیا آمد؛ تحصیلات ابتدایی و دبیرستانی را تا گرفتن دیپلم در تهران سپری کرد و پس از آن وارد بازار کار، در شغل خیاطی شد.

غلامرضا در تظاهرات از ۳۰ خرداد ۱۳۶۰، به زندگی و مبارزه مخفی روی آورد. وی در اسفندماه ۱۳۶۰، توسط پاسداران خمینی دستگیر شد، اما از زندان آزاد شده و هم چنان به فعالیت هایش ادامه داد. غلامرضا، مجدداً در آبان ماه سال ۱۳۶۲، دستگیر و به زندان اوین منتقل گردید.
او به وسیله ماموران رژیم به شدت شکنجه شد، تا آن که سرانجام در تاریخ ۱۳مهر ۱۳۶۴ زیر شکنجه کشته شد.

دو هفته بعد از کشته شدنش زمانی که طبق روال معمول، پدر و مادر غلامرضا، برای دیدار او به زندان اوین رفتند، مأموران رژیم، ساک وسایل شخصی او را تحویل داده و آنها را از برگزاری هر گونه مراسمی منع کردند

Gholamreza was a tailor and a supporter of the Mojahedin Organization. In November 1983, he was arrested for the second time and transferred to Evin Prison. The interrogators subjected him to the most severe torture for months. Gholamreza died under torture.
